Biography
DEBRA GRIFFITH. A.Mus.A., CertMusT.
(USQ)
Teacher of Piano, Musicianship and Theory
Debra Griffith is an innovative teacher
who offers tuition in piano, musicianship and theory from beginner
to advanced levels in a modern studio environment.
Debra's Philosophy on music teaching is based on a number of
areas, some personal and some that are influenced by other well
respected music educators.
Debra uses Dalcroze and Orff teaching methods to help students
internalize concepts such a rhythm, pitch and musical awareness.
She attends professional development seminars regularly so she
can pass on new ideas on teaching techniques and the latest repertoire.
Students are encouraged to present for examinations conducted
by the AMEB, but are not pressured to do so.
The Examination system is helpful in that it develops a disciplined
approach to music study. The same can be said for Eisteddfods.
Debra believes that every student is an individual and therefore
determines whether they want to play for pleasure, have the challenge
of performing in an Eisteddfod or prepare for examination. The
student will be supported in what they want to achieve.
Beginners are welcome in her studio and parents are encouraged
to be involved in their children's practice and aural homework.
Debra's most recent studies (year 2000) were at the University
of Southern Queensland where she passed with distinctions in
her Certificate of Music Teaching.
She is accredited with the Music Teachers'
Association of N.S.W. and is confident in teaching students of
all ages and flexible in meeting student's needs.
